What Is the Minimum Age to Drive a Car in Thailand

You have decided to take an unforgettable trip to one of the most beautiful holiday destinations, Thailand. You have chosen this location because you have been fascinated by all the beauties that there are in this Southeast Asian country which, in recent years, has been re-evaluated and is getting a lot of support from tourists from all over the world: in fact , this is a truly enchanting country because it allows you to have unique and also very complete and complex experiences, satisfying the most varied needs and requirements in a single trip.

Do you like scuba diving? Here you can enter the seabed, to carry out this sporting activity in total safety! Do you prefer snorkeling because this activity requires less preparation and can be easily done by everyone? Here there are many seaside resorts that allow you to observe the seabed without necessarily having to dive, and you can find many places to rent the necessary equipment (snorkel and fins). Do you prefer to enjoy the sun, the sea and relaxation on a crowded beach, listening to good music and sipping a cocktail? You can also do this, but not only: in fact, many people choose Thailand also for a holiday with their children, to attend interesting shows such as that of the Fantasea or to the various viewpoints on the island of Phuket (for example, the one dedicated to monkeys).

All these experiences can be lived in the same holiday not only because of the varied offer that Thailand offers: in fact, you can really get the most out by simply renting a car and reaching any location you want, in the shortest possible time (and therefore enjoying the maximum autonomy).

However, there are some aspects that it is good to know thoroughly to avoid running into risks and problems: in fact, not everyone can drive in this country and the rules we know (and which are valid for Italy) may not be valid for this location. For example, one of these is that in Italy it is possible to drive cars from the age of 18, after passing a theory and practice exam at the end of which a driving license is delivered: the fact of being in possession of a valid driving license in our country, however, does not mean that that document will be sufficient to be able to drive freely elsewhere.

In Thailand, for example, a conversion is required: to drive here, you must have a Thai driving license (which, however, you can only obtain if you are a citizen or if you can prove that you work in the country) or a license that is recognized in Thailand (international level). This is nothing more than an Italian driving license, for example, which is recognized because a conversion is carried out in Italy which makes it valid for this destination as well.

However, it is also good to remember that to drive in Thailand you must be at least 21 years old and not be over 70 years old: the limits are however variable depending on the categories of cars, and it is therefore important to know that to be in compliance you must have been in possession of the driving license for at least one year. These rules (which may seem strict) are also important due to the high number of road accidents that occur in this country, also causing deaths to tourists: one of the main reasons is driving on the left, which often creates confusion in those who do not have already a certain familiarity with driving and therefore does not have a certain experience.
